Brendan, nice photos. Yes, I had not thought about shadow as a time telling tool. And shade creates a space in which we can shelter from the heat of the day. Ah, but what about the scary shadows?
Not only could shadow be used as a time telling tool, but also sharpens our other senses. For example, blind individuals cannot rely on sight. All they “see” is darkness. They now have to rely on their other senses such as hearing, smell, touch, etc. What i find very interesting was that as I was reading this interstice, blind people do not want their sight restored due to the fact they have relied on darkness for so long and that this new vision overwhelms them. I know that if i was blind that i would want to see again but I do see Macauley’s point.
