When we were talking about the land ethic by Aldo Leopold, we got to talking about the concept of the tragedy of the commons. Whenever I hear that phrase I always wind up thinking about the song The Downeaster Alexa by Billy Joel. I’m not sure how many other people have heard this song, but I feel it applies and I think it is a pretty good song. Plus it is talking about the fishing industry on Long Island, so it is an example that is happening very close to us.

Powerful song. It features the Amagansett school and grave in the graveyard in Amagansett where I grew up. Jeremy, –excellent and powerful choice of the tragedy of the commons, indeed.
